Asiacell congratulates the Iraqi people and its customers for the Council of Minister’s decree to scrap value-added ‘VAT’ tax on mobile phones recharge cards which would contribute to lowering call, SMS and data costs for customers across Iraq
Iraq, Baghdad | November 27th, 2022: The Telecom giant Asiacell congratulates its customers for the government decision to abolish the 20% VAT tax on communication recharge cards. The decision was made following the Council of Ministers discussion of the VAT tax imposed on mobile phone and data recharge cards during an ordinary session of the Council on Tuesday 22nd, 2022, chaired by the Iraqi Premier Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani. The move is meant to reduce the burden on the customers after it had been imposed in 2015 because of the adverse economic conditions during the Liberation War.
Thus, the Council of Ministers has decided to scrap the 20% VAT tax imposed on recharge cards as of January 1st, 2022, entrusting the Communications and Media Commission ‘CMC’ to take appropriate actions to implement the decision.
In the meantime, Asiacell confirms its technical and organizational preparedness to implement the decision for which it has been working for long years to have it endorsed through pleas and deliberations with the Legislature and the Executive. As it would also like to extend its heartful thanks to His Excellency the Prime Minister, the Head Communications and Media Commission ‘CMC’, Her Excellency the Minister of Communication and all the relevant parties who contributed to raise this file for discussion and provided support to the decision.
