Asiacell Celebrates Its 9th Anniversary
February 2010 – In celebration of its 9th anniversary, which coincides on the 6th of February 2010, Asiacell promised the Iraqi people that it will maintain its advanced position in the Iraqi telecom market as a result of the trust that has been placed in the company, and that it will continue on the path that it has been following over the past several years to achieve more success and accomplishments, and to provide citizens with the highest level of services and products in the telecom industry.
Asiacell’s beginnings date back to 2001 when the company’s Chairman of the Board and Founder, a Kurdish-Iraqi businessman, Mr. Faruk Mustafa Rasool l founded the company in Sulaymaniyah to become the first mobile company in the history of Iraq; Asiacell’s establishment was also inaugurated by the current President of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Jalal Talabani.
Mr. Rasool’s accomplishment is a success story that serves as a source of national pride to the Iraqi economy; Asiacell was able during the last nine years to prove its efficiency and determination towards success and has become today the first and only mobile telecommunications company to provide coverage for all of Iraq, positioning itself as one of the most important national companies that Iraqi citizens count on for their daily communication.
On the occasion of Asiacell’s 9th anniversary, Dr. Diar Ahmed, Asiacell’s CEO, stated: “The company’s establishment represented a considerable challenge, as Asiacell’s inception took place during a time when Iraq was under economic sanctions. It is thanks to the efforts and persistence of Mr. Rasool in founding a company that serves the national economy, and by depending on the considerable capabilities that the company’s cadres enjoy, that we were able to overcome all obstacles and face unstable security and economic situation in Iraq, moving forward towards success.” Dr. Diar Ahmed added: “We shall continue to deliver on the promises we made to our fellow Iraqis in providing new, innovative and far-reaching telecom services that cater to the growing and changing needs of the local market. We reaffirm that the trust that our fellow Iraqis have placed in us motivates us to proudly carry the responsibility we have taken upon ourselves towards our nation and our countrymen, and fulfill our mission of cultivating promising investment opportunities in our country in order to contribute to building a new Iraq.”
It is worth noting that Asiacell has been able to achieve a number of recent accomplishments, the most prominent of which was growing its customer base to exceed 7.3 million subscribers, which confirms its ability to earn the trust of Iraqi consumers and provide them with the telecom services they demand in accordance with the highest level of professionalism. Asiacell was also able during the past year to add 1490 new BTS stations to its network through establishing 950 telecommunication towers, and expand and enhance the capabilities of 450 of its other sites.
