April 2011 - Asiacell the first and largest private Iraqi telecommunications company and the only mobile telecom company providing coverage for all of Iraq - has donated the sum of USD 50,000 to the Garmyan University, recently established in Kurdistan, to contribute to needed educational requirements and facilities at the University.
Asiacell’s donation affirms the Company’s keen interest in supporting the Iraqi education sector, namely emerging universities, and reflects its strong belief that assisting educational institutions and the young generation of future graduates is a social responsibility that lies on all national institutions in Iraq.
“Iraqi universities are providing our youth with tools to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed to enter the work market and make an effective contribution to the construction and progress of Iraq,” said Faruq Mustafa Rasul Asiacell chairman. He said the Company has chosen to support Garmyan University “being a young education institution that needs various equipment and facilities,” voicing hopes that the donation will help support higher education in Iraq and contribute to the country’s developmental efforts.
President of the Garmyan University, Prof.Faruq Abdulla Karim, praised Asiacell’s initiative as a responsible contribution that aims to support the local community in various fields, and expressed appreciation of the Company’s financial contribution, which he said “will be of big help to the University.”
Garmyan University, recently established in Kurdistan, hosts four faculties and 21 departments. So far a total of 5,700 students attend the various departments as freshmen.
